The Making Of Luck Decides. GMTK GameJam 2020
So Hey, I'm Ambush You Might Know Me If You Have Been Reading My Last Couple Of Dev-Logs, Today I Will Talk About My New GameJam Game, "Luck Decides", So Lets Get Into It.
48 Hours Left- So When I First Saw The Theme Of The GameJam I was A Bit Confused On What To Make, But I Came Up With An Idea That The Game Will Be A Dooms Day Simulator I Which You Make The World Spiral Out Of Control.(Spoiler Alert , This Didn't Happen). After Working For About 1 And A Half Hours I Went To Bed.
36 Hours Left- So I Slept For About 8 Hours(Which I Wasn't Supposed To) And Got Back To Work, I Realized Something. The Execution Of The Idea I Had Wasn't So Easy And I Was Not Sure If I Could Complete It In 2 Days. So I Came Up With A New Idea, Shooter Game Where The Control Of The Game Is Randomly Changed Every 30 Seconds. So With 12 Hours Down I Scrapped My Old Idea And Started Working On A New One. I Made A Simple Map(3 Blocks), A Square Player, Gave Him A Weapon Added An Enemy, Made The Enemies Spawn, Like A Generic Game-Development Process. I Wasn't Really Having Any Errors
The Luck System- For The Changing Controls Mechanic I Used An RNG System Which Changes The Control Of The Game-Play Every 30 Seconds. It Can Either Disable The Spawning Of The Healing Items, Mirror You Controls, Give You Too Much Recoil, Give You A Normal Game(If You Are Lucky Enough) Or If You Are Too Unlucky You Can Get Mirrored Controls And Recoil At The Same Time.
Enemies- There Are 2 Enemies In The Game(Both Are 2 Red Squares), A Normal Enemy That Shoots Normal Projectiles, And An Enemy That Shoots Grenades, The Normal Enemy Is Faster While The Grenade Enemy Does More Damage.
Day 2- The First Thing I Did On Day 2 Was To Wake Up Late And Realize That I Have Wasted Time. Then I Added A Main Menu To The Game. I Used sfxr To Make Some Sound Effects, Added Screen Shake, Just A Normal Process.
6 Hours Left- I Realized That I Had Not Added Any Music To The Game, Nor Do I Know How To Make Music, So I Made A Really Bad Sound Track Using Bosca Ceoil And Added An Option To Mute It If It Hurts Your Ears.
1 and 1/2 Hours Left- I Realized That The Game Didn't Have Any Replay-Ability So I Thought Of A Random Map System, And With Only 1 and 1/2 Hours Left I Added Random Maps, There Are Three Maps 2 Are Just The Same Just One Is The Flipped Version Of The Other While On The Other One Is Different And Has A Lava Mechanic.
4 Mins Left- As Soon As I Was Done With Everything(Or So I Thought) I Created The Project And Uploaded It, Game Jam Successful.
Aftermath- I Realized That The How To Play Menu Was Not So Obvious To See As It Was Just A Question Mark On The Screen Next To The Options Button So The Player May Be Confused About The Luck System Till They Read The Top Of Their Screen. I Really Could've Added A Lot More Like Player Dying Effects, Enemy Dying Effects ,But I Ended Up Oversleeping, The Game Is Not Really Complete, It Still Has Many Issues And Bugs.
So Please Be Sure To Check The Game Out, Give It A Good Rating If You Enjoy It And Check Out My Other Game(Currently Un-Named), I Upload New Dev-Logs Every Week, So Make Sure To Tune In.
So, Bye , And Remember Stay Hydrated.
(Also I Have Added The Source Code Of The Game In The Game's Description, It's Not That Good).
